YPHOS Technology

Pioneering underwater lighting technology since 1971

For more than 50 years, we’ve been crafting experiences with water and light. Magical moments enjoyed by millions of people across more than 95 countries.
This is how.

Inside YPHOS production

Water, light and the engineering between them.

YPHOS electronics development
In-house development

We design our technology ourselves.

Since 2007, we have been developing LED lighting technology specifically for underwater applications. Rather than relying on generally available solutions, we design around the application itself — using the underwater environment to our advantage, optimizing performance, and addressing the thermal, spatial and electrical demands that come with it.

From the light engine and onboard processor to power management, protection and control, every element inside a YPHOS light is developed to work together as one complete underwater lighting system.

Precision equipment working on a YPHOS underwater light during manufacture
Made in Europe

Built under our own standards.

YPHOS is engineered and manufactured in Europe in a tightly climate-controlled, near clean-room production environment. Precision CNC machining, robotic sealing, advanced automation and meticulous assembly give us control over the details that ultimately determine how a light performs for years or decades.

Materials / Manufacturing / Quality

Every detail is engineered for years of reliable, high-performance operation.

Materials

Made from materials that belong in the sea.

Warm salt water is unforgiving. We use 904L stainless steel and AB2 bronze for demanding seawater applications, with each alloy offering spectacular lifespan underwater. Resistance to chloride corrosion, structural integrity and long-term stability begin with the material itself.

Manufacturing

Made with CNCs, robotically sealed.

The technology behind YPHOS extends into the way each fixture is made. Precision CNC machining, advanced automation and controlled assembly shape the production process, with robotic sealing on most fixtures at a critical stage of manufacture.

Quality

Quality built into every stage.

Quality control is embedded throughout the production process, with checks and testing at multiple stages. Independent third-party laboratories provide further verification through extensive testing and certification, making YPHOS one of the most thoroughly certified product ranges in underwater lighting.

Intelligence within

High performance, quietly managed.

Producing powerful light underwater is only part of the challenge. The fixture must also understand its own temperature, manage power correctly, protect itself from abnormal electrical conditions and operate without disturbing the sensitive systems around it.

That is why intelligence is built into the light itself. An onboard processor manages performance in the background, working together with high-frequency drivers, sensors and protection systems. Thermal management adjusts output through 256 individual steps as conditions change, while layers of electrical protection help keep the system operating as intended.

The technology is complex. The experience should not be.

01

More light. Less stress.

Light engine / Efficiency / Thermal architecture

High output creates heat. In a compact underwater fixture, the two have to be engineered together.

High-power LEDs, color architecture, electronics and thermal design are developed as one light engine for each YPHOS platform. The result is high useful output, with heat efficiently carried away from the components that produce it.

02

It knows when to protect itself.

Active thermal protection / Onboard processor / Electrical protection

Conditions change. A high-performance light should be able to respond before they become a problem.

The onboard processor continuously monitors operating conditions and actively manages output through 256 fine thermal steps. Protection against overheating, surges, reverse polarity, low voltage and other abnormal electrical conditions is built into the system, helping protect both performance and the electronics themselves.

03

Power that behaves properly.

Integrated drivers / Controlled power / Simpler installation

Every YPHOS light contains its own high-frequency drivers, engineered specifically for the light they power.

Beyond precise power regulation, smooth operation and long-term performance, this removes the need for separate external drivers — eliminating additional hardware, installation space, wiring, cost and a frequent point of failure.

04

Designed not to disturb — or be disturbed.

EMC engineering / Noise suppression / Y:Link

A yacht is full of sensitive electronic systems. Lighting needs to coexist with them without interference in either direction.

EMC engineering and electrical noise suppression are designed into YPHOS from the beginning, helping protect both the light and the systems around it. Y:Link communication is interference-proof by design, maintaining stable control without unwanted flicker or erratic behavior.

05

Shape light rather than simply produce it.

Purpose-designed optics / Beam control

A lumen only matters if it reaches the water usefully. More output alone does not create a better field of light.

YPHOS optics shape the field for each fixture: wide where width matters, controlled where spill is wasted, and directed to put more of the available light where it belongs. Light engine and optics are designed around the same result.

Technology, protection features and control compatibility vary by model and platform. Refer to the individual product specifications for the exact configuration.

YPHOS lighting control on a yacht MFD
Control & integration

Designed to work the way the yacht already does.

From simple electrical control to digital switching, the YPHOS app, MFD integration and DMX, compatible YPHOS systems can adapt to the vessel’s control architecture rather than asking the yacht to adapt around the lights.

01

Electrical

Simple, direct and fail-safe. Standard wiring gives instant control with no special interface required. Straightforward for any qualified marine electrician to install.

02

Digital Switching

YPHOS integrates with the yacht’s onboard digital switching system, allowing the lights to be controlled natively on the vessel’s existing displays and control panels.

03

YPHOS App

Full lighting control from your phone. The YPHOS app for iOS and Android puts color, brightness, scenes and sequences effortlessly at hand.

04

MFD Integration

Bring YPHOS directly to the helm. Garmin, Raymarine and other supported MFDs provide intuitive lighting control from the displays already on board.

05

DMX Integration

For yachts using DMX, YPHOS integrates directly into the existing lighting system, with each fixture individually addressable for precise lighting scenes and effects.

YPHOS Accessories

Accessories developed to simplify, protect and enhance every installation.

A complete lighting system goes beyond the fixture itself. That is why YPHOS develops its own range of accessories for installation, protection and control. Engineered to simplify, reduce potential points of failure and improve the way the entire system performs on board.
